I didn’t plan to start a candle company. It started in a therapy session. My therapist asked me one simple question:
“What is one thing in your life that sparks happiness?”
Without hesitation, candles came to mind.
I left that session, ordered my first candle-making kit, and on July 1, 2023 on Canada Day. I made my very first candle.
I gave them to friends, neighbours, and family. And somewhere in that process, something came alive in me that I hadn’t felt in a long time. Then life changed. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, a chronic invisible illness that changed the way I lived, worked, and cared for myself. I stepped away from candle making for a season because I needed to take care of myself.
But in that difficult season, something else became even more important: my faith. When I didn't have the strength to carry everything myself, I found comfort in the Word of God.
Lamentations 3. Psalm 46:10. Psalm 92. Psalm 150.
Those Scriptures held me when nothing else could.
And when I came back, I came back differently.
I didn't just come back to make candles.
I came back with a message. A message for the woman who gives so much, cares for everyone, keeps showing up, and somehow forgets that she needs to receive, too.
The woman who is tired of being the strong one.
The woman who carries things quietly.
The woman who pours into everyone else and rarely stops to ask, “What do I need?”
The woman who may look fine on the outside while quietly asking God for strength on the inside.
Close Ties Gifts was born from that place.

To let God carry what we've been trying so hard to carry ourselves.
